Moods of Changing Weather, Colour and Light

Winter in the North West Highlands is a time of quickly changing moods of weather, colour and light.

A time during which you cannot predict what conditions are going to prevail. But whatever happens it is an exciting time explore the area and it’s wild places.

With little actively growing vegetation Archaeological sites are easily discovered.

Animals, especially adapted to harsh winters in the mountains contrast with birds who migrate to winter on the coast because of the warming influence of the Gulf stream.

It might be winter but hey  - look what you are missing...
Point NorthWest can offer you a holiday during which you develop and improve your hill-craft skills.

But if we have a mild winter we can stalk deer, explore the outstanding coastal scenery, learn about our magnificent birds of prey.

We can explore ancient forts, old settlements or discover the story of the fascinating geology of the area.

We can find cosy pubs with warm fires for lunch.

Open and Exciting in Winter...
The myth that everything closes down in the Highlands in winter is not true. In the Village of Ullapool, music, theatre, and warm friendly pubs are all on offer.

The wonderful thing is you can have a great time away from the winter honey pots of Aviemore and Fort William and you can feel as if you are exploring places unknown to others.

So do not dismiss winter, join us and explore this wonderful landscape, it’s wildlife, it’s history and culture.
